WASHINGTON, DC – Population Connection Action Fund, the political arm of Population Connection and America’s population movement, announced today its endorsement of Barbara Lee (D-CA) for reelection to the U.S. House of Representatives. Rep. Lee earned a 100 percent score on the Action Fund’s 2015-2016 Congressional Report Card.
“Population Connection Action Fund is proud to endorse Barbara Lee, a dedicated voice for human rights, for reelection to the U.S. House of Representatives,” said John Seager, president of Population Connection Action Fund.
Not only has Rep. Lee voted for increased reproductive rights in the U.S., but she has also worked tirelessly to improve the rights of women and girls around the world. She has consistently supporting aid for international family planning and co-sponsored legislation to end the Global Gag Rule, which prohibits oversees organizations that receive U.S. funding from mentioning or discussing abortion, regardless of whether the medical procedure is legal or requested by the patient. As a key member of the House Appropriations Committee, Rep. Lee has been a leader in the fight to ensure that family planning and reproductive health services for women in the developing world are supported and strengthened.
Rep. Lee has stated: “I refuse to live in a world where my granddaughters have fewer rights than I did. We must protect reproductive freedom.”
Seager added, “No issue is more important to the future than ensuring that girls and women have the services they need to be full and equal participants in the economic, political and social life of their communities and countries. Barbara Lee has never wavered in her commitment to that, and we are proud to stand with her in campaign for another term in Congress.”
