Senate Votes 2015-2016

Ban on Safe Abortion for Trafficking Victims

Our position: Oppose

A bill designed to combat human trafficking included a provision banning funds for being used for safe abortions for victims. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell sought to bring the bill to the floor for a vote, but Senate Democrats contended that they would not allow a vote until the restriction was removed. Because this was a cloture vote, supporters needed 60 votes. The attempt failed, 55-43.
